Stories are always an integral part of any culture and the best part about anime is it gives the writer full freedom to tell a story without any biased, the characters could feel unrealistic sometimes but the stories and experiences attached to it are parallel to the real world.
For many anime is like a “cartoon” and thus only for kids, that’s what I was thinking when I saw my friends watching it. But only to my surprise, I was wrong and I found this new medium of storytelling no less than a movie or a show. The anime world is not only for kids but it has a lot to offer to the youth and elderly.
When you would see the amount of anime out to watch, it could be overwhelming for a newbie; Therefore I have curated a list of 10 short anime series that you can watch over a weekend or normally over a week and get a glimpse of this awe-inspiring anime universe.
- DEATH NOTE :- One of the greatest thrillers in the anime world, people recommend it as the first anime to watch. No doubt it has many fans across the globe. This 37 episode anime is a story writing marvel, with a great plot and several nerve-wracking plot twists. It has a great lesson how uncontrollable power can turn a good person to commit a crime to maintain his power.
2. ONE PUNCH MAN :- Saitama the main hero is so powerful that he can finish an enemy with just one punch, this makes his life so boring fighting the villains who cannot compete with him. The story is full of comedy and is a must-watch for everyone. There are 2 seasons consisting of 12 episodes each.
3. PRISON SCHOOL :- Hachimitsu Academy, an all-girls school, decides to become co-ed, Their first batch of boys who are a bunch of perverts are caught peeping in girls’ restroom, Then these 5 boys are sent to the school prison where they are punished. This 12 episodes short anime is full of fun and makes you laugh your mind out in each episode.
4. ERASED:- A 29-year-old man working in a pizza store encounters a regular episode of revival where his past is erased and he solves the mistakes in the past. But a strong accident make him revive in his past childhood, he tries to solve every situation that he could to prevent the mishappening in the future. This story is full of twists and emotions and is only 12 episodes short
5. Re LIFE:- Arata Kaizaki(main character) is 27 years old and is depressed in his life with no job satisfaction after he leaves his job he meets a stranger who is involved in a research program who give him a pill that will make him younger. He accepts the proposal thinking he will improve his mistakes and not end up where he is now. The story is unique and will make you think about your life. It is a 13 episode short anime with each episode engaging.
6. DEATH PARADE:- In this list, it is the most intense Psychological thriller, with a mere 12 episodes, this anime has everything to binge-watch with each episode different from the other. The main theme is that when someone dies they are either send to heaven or hell but those whose decision can not be made at the time of death are sent to the Quindecim, which is a bar attended by the Decim some creatures that have white hair. In this bar, the people are either sent to void or are given another chance to live.
7. DEMON SLAYER:- This is one of the best anime that is launched in recent years with a great storyline and great graphics. The story is about a normal kid (Tanjiro) whose family is attacked and eaten by demons, the sole survivor is his little sister who becomes a demon, the story revolves around how he fights with the world to treat his sister and in this process becomes a member of Demon Slayer Corp (those who kill demons). The demons have supernatural powers and are stronger than the Demon Slayer Corps, which leads to an intense battle. Currently, 3 seasons are out which consists of 44 engaging episodes.
8. TERROR IN RESONANCE:- With only 11 episodes this dark thriller is the best one can ask for from a short anime. Two genius teenagers play a quiz game with the police officials by setting bombs in different locations across japan and only revealing the location if they decipher the puzzles.
9. THE PROMISED NEVERLAND:- When I first watched this anime the plot of this anime hooked me in. How small children are fed to monsters as livestock by their caretaker whom they consider as their mother and when children get to know about these things, how they plan an escape from the orphanage. This dark fantasy, a thriller is a must-watch and consist of 2 seasons with a total of 23 episodes.
10. STEINS; GATE:- If you fancy the kind of plot where anything is possible but also impossible at the same time, then go ahead with Steins; Gate. A self-proclaimed “mad scientist” Rintaro Okabe managed to invent the time machine out of a microwave oven. A confusing chain of events soon follow and Okabe had to undo a lot of the damage he caused just to bring back the woman he loved. This 25 episodes long anime is old but still has its charm and on of the best sci-fi anime.
